If I were writing a Guidance Policy, I would insist that all teachers be respectful towards the children and put their well-being before anything else. Do not act towards the children in a way that is disrespectful, potentially harmful, or inappropriate. When resolving a conflict, do so in a manner that is authoritative. By that I mean that a teacher should be reasonable when doing so. Teachers should not expect obedience from the children. Tell the children why their behavior might be causing a problem and listen to their own needs. This same approach should be taken with the children's families. Be kind and respectful to all families, and respect their opinions and wishes for their children, so long as they will not cause undue stress or harm to any child.
