The responses that work best that adults use are those that appeal to the child's sense of reason. When children are rowdy or are doing some that might bother others nearby, an adult would let them know how their behavior might be bothering those nearby, and the children usually responded to it. Adults that don't rely on their authority to solve issues tend to be the ones that try to communicate with the child more clearly and maintain a better relationship with the child.
