Ask parents to make sure they are dropping their child off with enough time to reassure them that they are returning later that day to pick them up. If possible, maybe the family member(s) and the care giver - together - can lead the child to a group of other children that are engaged in an activity that their child likes to do. Engage with the child throughout the day to ask them how they are feeling. If the child continues to feel separation anxiety, request that the parent brings a comforting toy or a blanket for nap time to help the child feel more at home. It might be possible to see if there is a structure to their day on the weekends, such as reading a book in the morning, that can be incorporated around the same time of day at school as well to give the child a sense of security and stability.
