Talk with the child's family ahead of time, and ask what is most comfortable for them. Make sure the parent says goodbye, even if it means the child might cry more. Trust is important. Have the parent stay for a short time to validate the child's feelings. Comfort the child, and assure them that their family will be back to pick them up at a certain time. (example after naptime) Let them know you are there for them and you will take good care of them. Give the child extra support throughout the day. Tell the parents they are free to check on their child anytime. Maybe take photos of them doing activities after they have settled in, and sending them to their families, and let the child know you're sending their pictures to their family.
