Acknowledging to the parent that drop off can be hard and that's okay because the parent may start to feel guilty for leaving their crying child behind but they know they have to get on with the day. It's always a good idea to transfer the child from the parents arms to the caregiver to provide the needed support until the crying stops. Assuring the child that the parent will be back and continuing comfort, also allowing the child to wave from the window to allow one last goodbye helps the child in calming down. In my experience, the child needs to cry for a while, and then they notice the other kids and they start to interact on their own time.
