The way I reduce exposure to illnesses to a child is by staying home or wearing a face mask while I am sick, making sure to wash my hands through out transitions and when handling food, keeping surfaces clean and sanitized, and by reminding children who are sick to cover their cough and wash their hands.

In a facility if you are ill yes, the best way to reduce exposure of illness to other staff member or to children it is best to stay home, because many of these infections, are contagious and it takes a day or more before symptoms show. Sometimes a child will be sick and come to child care, and so making sure to wash your hands and the child's hands frequently helps to reduce the spread of the virus or bacteria to staff members and to children in your care. If a child is ill and need to go home, there should be a plan so someone can pick the child up, because children who use their hands to wipe their noses or rub their eyes and then handle toys or touch other children, those children also touch their noses and rub their eyes so the virus goes from child to toys to surfaces to the next child and so on.
