Some facilities may be limited in space to provide sufficient unstructured play outdoors. It may be due to lack of organizing the time effectively. Our centre is able to provide sufficient structures and unstructured play. We teachers must be deliberate about helping and motivating our kids to engage in active play both structured and unstructured by playing with them and giving them ideas to play together

i think it has alot to do with age groups and scheduling, some days will always be easier to fit everything into and others not. even though im in the infant room, Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays are always the tough days for our whole room.

When there are a lot of different pickup and dropoff times it makes it hard for structured activity. Our center actually does pretty well. We have a lotnof space. Some centers do not have it.

In the facility I work they have from babies to kindergarten, each group has about 40 min to play so that they can let the other groups go out as well.

It is important for children to understand that some physical activity is structured and would require for them to follow that structure but also important for them to understand that unstructured time is for them and available at nearly any time to them outside of our scheduled days at school!

Time can be a limiting factor, as well as space, especially if these spaces are being shared between many groups. Weather can also impact how outdoor play.

The reason for this might be that there might not be enough time for structured and instructed play if the teacher has a full lesson plan that makes it difficult to alter without sacrificing some other important activity. Another reason might be that the weather is bad and the teacher wants to try to prevent as many illnesses as possible by opting to not go outside.

It could be the age of the children (infants), the weather, or they do not have adequate space or structures.
