Children can signal for help in obvious or subtle ways, as children feel alone or hurt differently. It can be yelling, not listening, become either quiet or excessively loud, crying, treating their friends unkindly, treating their teacher unkindly, or hurting themselves, their classmates, or their things.

It depends on the child. Some may become withdrawn or isolate themselves from the group. Some may engage in disruptive or destructive behavior. Others may treat the other children in their class differently or act out whatever they are going through in their play.

I feel like all children signal for help in different ways. Some at my school may as for help directly or some may get stressed out and cry/ get upset which cues me to ask if they need help.

The child signals for help by crying frequently, being distant or extremely attached, showing abnormal anger or lashing out, having odd sleeping patterns, coming to class with bruises in abnormal places, asking to stay at the daycare instead of going home, loss of significant weight, showing fear in front parent or guardian.

Sometimes children will tell you directly. Other times they use modes like getting frustrated, crying, throwing items, etc.
