I've seen children feel disconnected in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as a tone of voice used to talk to the child--the words are acceptable, but the caregiver can be frustrated, sarcastic, or not managing their own emotions wisely. Unintentionally excluding a child (not noticing them by themselves or noticing a child that has become very quiet) is another way. Favoring one child over another can also cause disconnect.

ive seen kids become disconnected when a they are trying to talk to an adult and they are ignoring the child, if that type of behavior continues, the child will stop coming to that adult or to all adults in general
