The components of human diversity will influence how a child views the world, and this in turn will influence a child’s well-being, behavior, attitudes, and growth. One example I have seen in my work with children is how a loss of a job in the family affected a child. Not only did this influence the monetary means available in the family, but it also caused the child to become stressed and worried. This stress and worry was present in the way the child began to interact with other children and teachers. In another instance, a child who came to school knowing very little English began to learn it very quickly. So quickly that the child no longer wanted to talk to their grandparent in their home language. It became important to both the parent and the classroom to assist the child in supporting both languages so as to remain connected with both family and new friends.
