For me, one of the most challenging parts of working with families is sleep. I work in an infant room, and having children who co-sleep, sleep in swing or rocker, or a bouncer, make it difficult for their children to sleep at daycare. This means that they are picking up their children cranky, tired, and ready to take a long nap at 5:30. This can make night-time sleep difficult too. I have a hard time talking to parents about how they put their children to sleep because it's a personal decision for them, and I don't want them to feel like they are being judged or making a "wrong" choice.
The best part is when the parents and I are in sync for what we want for their children, and the relationship becomes like a true partnership. I spend a lot of time with their children, and I want to support what they do at home. When the families want to support what happens at school too, it's fantastic.
