I have seen a child be made to feel disconnected by a variety of things. Missing their parent, another child refusing to play with them, being tired or hungry, wetting themselves, and especially after getting injured.

What disconnect children is stress about something, parents leaving them, hungry, angry and upset etc.

I have seen children feel disconnected when they are unable to demonstrate the same skills as their peers, are hungry, or are tired.

I had a child in my class who was struggling with having accidents. I think his parents strategy for dealing with his accidents may have been counter-productive because every time he had one he would isolate himself from the group. He seemed guilty and ashamed and when he eventually felt ready to talk to me he needed affection and reassurance that everything would be ok.

The things I have noticed that have made a child feel disconnected are when the child is missing their parents, the child didn't get enough sleep the night before, their parents are separated or getting a divorce, their is fighting in their home life, the child isn't receiving proper nutrition and other crucial factors.

There are many things that can cause a child to feel disconnected. If a child does not have the ability to do a certain task other children can do, they often feel left out. It can also be caused by bullying, abuse, or nervousness.
