2.3. Very few of us get enough sleep. How can you help children in your care get enough rest?
Child care providers have a responsibility in providing a good sleeping environment that is comfortable and safe for the children in their care. Ensuring children have enough sleep is important, but sleep environments in a child care setting can be sometimes difficult, because a child might not be used to napping/sleeping indifferent environments, for some children at home they may be used to sleeping in a noisy environment or in complete silence. And so, ways child care providers can help children in their care get enough rest is to first learn about their home sleeping environment, this will help improve the child’s chances of getting a successful rest. If a child is used to naps two times a day, he/she might have trouble adjusting to a new afternoon nap schedule, consider setting up a quiet corner where the child can go if he/she needs rest, for quiet time to nap. Also, try and think of sleep and nap routines as part of a child's individual curriculum, because all children have their own sleep or nap times and there can be success if child care providers try to work within those parameters.
