When there are young children in your care even the smallest safety concern is important, no matter how obvious it may seem, because everything is new to them. Some safety standards that are required are child height handrails on at least one side of the steps, stairways, and ramps, guardrails for elevated play areas and stairs, light bulbs and tubes shielded by using a protective barrier to prevent shattering into child-accessible areas, food, and storage areas, and a barrier for glass areas such as windows or sliding glass doors that extend down to the child’s eye level. These requirements allow children to move around in a safe environment.
