The childcare center should have guidelines that are easily accessible to parents and staff outlining what is expected in case of illness and how the center tries to prevent illnesses from spreading. Frequent as-needed/daily cleaning and sanitization or disinfecting is key to help reducing instances of illness. Also staying home (both child and teacher) when illness presents itself is very important. Limit or prevent exposure to bodily fluids by using non-porous gloves and limit exposure to airborne pathogens by coughing into the elbow. Wash hands frequently so that germs are not transmitted.

By watching for these contagious illnesses and sending a child home when appropriate we minimize exposure to other children. We also minimize exposure to other by frequently washing hands and sanitizing toys and washing cloths blankets, bedding and toys.
