Culture is part of one's identity and includes all kinds of aspects including language, behaviors, and customs related to social functions. It also includes familial styles, which can be different from household to household which could have an impact on how a child responds in a classroom environment. As a person that comes from a mixed background, language and social behaviors have been some of the hardest. As a person of mixed heritage, there is also the battle of having to 'choose' which identity you want to be associated with. However, the role of a teacher, especially in a childcare facility, should be to help a child/student embrace their identity in all regards.

Culture is a collection of experiences and influences, often from our upbringing, that shape our world view as well as all of our interactions with others. Culture can include beliefs based upon religion, race, socioeconomic status, family status, relationships, and many other factors shaping how people interact with others in learning, teaching, and casual encounters.
