What does it take to communicate effectively with families?
There are definitely some key factors to consider when communicating with families both in a productive and efficient way. I believe that it is important create boundaries and norms from the start of the initial communication moment. It is also important to think about the perspective to consider on the other end. Be positive specific and a great way that I have done that is by writing down the "opportunities for the child but also the successes as well. Being descriptive without being judgmental is a factor that I think is important for the growth of the relationship with the adult but also the child. Listening and understanding the child in a challenging situation can be a big part of knowing how to deal with it and think and write out next steps to follow up with parent guardian. Acknowledging difference in view with parent can seem difficult but recognizing that you want success for the child as well can help with thinking of ways to handle situations differently.

To communicate effectively with families, you must be sensitive to the family knowing the culture and how they communicate. It is also important to communicate clearly and in a positive way.
