Spending time with the children in your care and getting to know them will help us become aware of any neglect or abuse, if present. We can read resources related to child abuse to familiarize ourselves with the symptoms and how to protect the children from further abuse and get medical help when necessary

You can recognize potential cases of child abuse by researching and understanding the symptoms and signs and being familiar with how each child usually behaves. Noticing irregularities in children's behavior and staying alert for physical and emotional signs of abuse can help childcare providers intervene when necessary.

Many children exhibit similar problematic behaviors when under the stress of abuse. Knowing the children's regular behavior well may help to tell if abuse begins but may not be a useful indicator if the child has already experienced abuse. Behavior that could be read as a cry for help should always be acknowledged.
