Safe indoor environment: Easy to navigate, no sharp edges or damaged toys, large furniture is secured, shatterproof light covers, cleaning supplies and chemicals out of the reach of children, children's play materials easily within reach of each child so they do not need to climb to reach anything, proper staff-to-child ratio, designated food prep area and changing areas, etc.
Safe outdoor environment: Fence slats no more than 3.5 in apart, barriers on playground equipment to keep children from falling, soft ground under climbing equipment, helmets for riding toys, no dangerous/poisonous plants, pools and water features fenced off so children cannot access them, gates to the street secured so children can not go out without an adult, proper staff-to-child ratios, etc.
