The best way is through constant interaction. Professionals need to talk regularly to parents about their days, work, and their kids. It is easier to get to know children because you are able to interact with them for the majority of the day since they are in your facility. d

I would say the best way to get to know children and their families is to have good communication, ask questions, give positive feed back. Before and at the end of the day is best especially when giving a brief overview of how the day went, it gives a small opportunity to have a conversation which may lead to learning more about the individual and their family.

Comunication is key getting to know the families giving them updates on there childs progress at drop off and pick up. Inviting parents to observe or asking them to volunteer on birthdays or outings like picnics or going to the movies.

Things I have used in the past to get to know children and families are things such as take home packets of getting to know me activities to be done with parents and child, speaking to the child about home life hobbies and more (if they are the appropriate age), and building strong parent partnerships by speaking and discussing with the parents at drop off and pick up.

How do professionals get to know the children and familes?
What i usually do is i try to talk to the parents when they drop off, so i can built a relationship with them and have communication with them. Not just a Hi and Bye all the time. Sometimes knowing the parents tells about of how the child/ren are being raised.

I interact with the children in my care throughout the day, and make sure to take time to pay attention to what they are saying, how they are feeling, etc, during both one-on-one time and group activities, and also make sure to connect with and communicate with parents when they come to pick up children , and fill them in on the child's day.

It's important to get to know the parents of the child in your care, to create activities in order to learn about the interests of their child and to have personal conversations with both the parents and the children.
